Is that the for the drip tray? I have a genesis and I’m pretty sure I have that gap.

Looks pretty normal to my eye. You don’t want a gas grill to be sealed up too well, it can become dangerous. That’s why charcoal grills have adjustable vents, but gas are generally fixed and fairly open.
