We just got our first home and want to get a grill this year, while at home depot i stumbled upon this Grill on a fairly decent clearance price (58% off) , is it a decent grill? It looks like a nice grill to start with and we could upgrade later, i just have the nagging feeling we should go buy it before someone else does.

Just get a weber dawg
Depending on your budget and what you’re trying to do, I mean if I wanted a grilled steak tonight, I’d buy it
I’ve had this grill for about 2 years now, and it’s where I really learned. I’d recommend it. I’ve since expanded out to a Weber kettle and a pellet smoker, but I still bring out the propane when I need something quick done, or want to do a high heat sear after smoking something.
It probably won’t last more than another year or two, but I think it’s a decent enough price to get you started!
Had this grill for many years. Wanted something cheap and BBQ ready for holidays. It’s held up pretty well. I would consider this a beginner BBQ if you want to step it up I would go Weber grill
For $126 you could do worse. Everyone here will tell you a weber is better, and they probably are. But to dip your feet in youll be fine.
I’ve been cooking on a cheap ass grill for like 10 years. I do want to upgrade soon but I’m so good at using my grill. Buy the grill. Learn on it. Enjoy it.
Personally I would pay 20 more and get the Weber Kettle 22. Embrace charcoal, you can do a lot more with a Kettle
Nice try Hank.
$125 is a great price. If you’ve never been a griller or you don’t grill that much, then this is perfect. You’ll probably get a good 6 years out of it if you keep it covered
For that price, sure
$126 for a four zone grill? Yeah man, great deal.
I have owned a dyno-glo grill before…I kept it clean and always covered when not in use.
It rusted through in about 4 years…
I had bought it to replace a weber 3 burner grill which needed new internals, but the name brand parts would have cost me more than the dyno-glo.
I had used the weber for ten years…
After the dyno glo rusted through, I pulled the weber out of the garage and replaced the parts. The body, lid, and frame have zero rust still today.
It is still solid 10 years later.
So, long story long, spend the extra loot on a weber, because that dyno glo will so to crap in about 5 years or so.
If you prefer gas grilling over charcoal grilling, it will get the job done and if taken care of, can last you several years. I prefer charcoal, though, so I can’t comment on this particular model.
for 299 it’s not bad. For 126 it’s an absolute steal. Buy it and don’t even think twice about it.
Good deal but it won’t last long / do your best to cover it and keep it somewhere dry if possible when not in use.
Don’t be surprised if it only lasts 2 years.
Yes buy it and 2 tanks
Agree with a lot of folks about the weber but if it were me… buy that grill and a weber. I bought a gas grill on a huge discount about 15 years ago. Never even heard of the brand and guess what? – still have it. I also have a bunch of other grilling devices now but I still have that gas one.
ETA -don’t want to use a charcoal grill
Thanks everyone! I wasn’t expecting so many comments so fast! I hardly post on reddit so I was surprised.
My husband and I have agreed charcoal is nice but not very accessible for me with my disabilities, it’s much easier to use propane or gas for now so it’s a quicker.
It’s my first grill and I’d just be starting so I’m just wanting to learn and upgrade later, the escrow company refunded us an over payment of $150 and we thought it would be a fun buy
It depends on what your plans are for grilling but that looks like an affordable way to get started. I’ll agree with others here and say that a Weber would give you a lot more options, especially if you want to try smoking anything. It’ll last longer too. You could probably even go on marketplace and find a decent used one for cheap by the weekend.
Cover it. Clean it. Keep it dry. Tighten everything every once in a while.
If you’re looking for a bargain, check Craigslist or FB Marketplace. There’s a grill for everyone at every stage of life. The first day we moved into our new house, I found the outdoor nat gas hookup I missed when we toured the house, so that afternoon I found a DCS with rotisserie for $100 and it’s been used at least twice a week ever since. With a 1 and a 3 year old, it makes a lot more sense to not have to worry about charcoal OR propane OR breaking the bank
It looks nice. Tbh I never understood the point of a gas grill at that point I’ll just cook indoors. Charcoal give u da flavorrr
I don’t know how these newer models hold up but my Dyna-glo is on year 13 and still going. I replaced some internals last year but it has braved the elements uncovered for about half of those years and still looks great.
Are you slightly handy, able to tinker and get throngs working?
If so, check Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist for a used Weber Genesis. People dump really great grills for cheap because they don’t want to do a little maintenance. I’ve had my own Weber since 2008 and it’s been a great grill and cooked thousands of meals. My ex found one on Marketplace for around $100 and replaced a few wear items (igniter, and flavor bars) and has been grilling for years. It looked almost new when she got it and should last her forever. Just be sure the chassis and body are in good shape. The rest is replaceable.
If you wait until spring a lot of grills will be dumped by people “upgrading”.
$126 honestly isn’t that bad
I had my dyna for 6 years and it was still working great when i gave it away to a single mom of two teenagers. (I also bought it discounted at HD)
I could get it ripping hot fora great sear. Learned a lot in that grill and would recommend for a solid budget bbq.
It may rust out in a couple years but as long as you maintain/clean it, should be good. I always recommend getting a cover too
I’m on my 3rd year of my “temporary” Charbroil (my dream grill is a Napoleon). So go for it! If you get two or three years out of it, it was well worth it!
You will end up with a pellet smoker sooner or later. Might as well just buy it now 😉
I was going to chime in as my neighbor owns this grill but I rent and I respect your request of this being strictly for new home owners.
Objectively I would prefer the 22 inch Weber kettle because it’s surprisingly versatile with a charcoal basket for one side, searing and indirect cooking as well as doing the snake method for smoking something like a brisket or pulled pork.
However, that’s something you can get at any time or look for one at your leisure on Facebook marketplace where they are usually plentiful cheap and in good condition. This grill for that price and the convenience of propane grilling when you’re likely still moving in and getting accustomed to your house is gonna be a lot more convenient in my opinion as long as you’re good about keeping it clean and maybe getting a cover for it if you live where there’s a lot of rain to prevent rust. Even if it doesn’t last very long, it’ll be good for you to tell how much or how often you will be grilling outside and see if you even end up needing anything nicer. So I say get it.
I got a grill very similar to this and the grates were terrible. They didn’t fit well and moved around a ton, got dirty easily and were hard to clean. I bought some stainless steel grates online for a very good price and it has made the experience so much better. So don’t be afraid make some quality of life improvements
If you can’t grill on this thing…..you won’t be able to grill on a more expensive one, either….
I wouldn’t feel bad at spending $130 on that. Will certainly grill meats and burgers and as a new homeowner, there are going to be a LOT of things to buy so live in the house a few years, sort out what your maintenance / repair plan looks like for the house and upgrade when this bad boy takes a dump or rusts out.
Pretty sure I have that exact same grill. It grills. I will get a traeger eventually but this thing has lasted me a few years and cooked hundreds of fantastic meals on it. Just get a quality cover for the rain and you will be fine. I sear all the time just know that side gets incredibly hot
Amazing how many people don’t read the question. Only “New homeowners” can comment on this. As a new homeowner myself who likes to grill I would say go for it what’s $126 compared to what you just spent on a new home. lol
Grill did me right for many a years
I wouldn’t pick it up, but I’d certainly grill with it!
No, get a charcoal grill, your food will taste better
Buy a Weber. Anything else is wasting your money.
At that price, go for it. Just take care of it, keep it out of the weather when it’s not in use. I didn’t regret spending on a Weber that’s still kicking after 12 years, but this one should do just fine. You can always upgrade down the line if you think you need to.
In my experience, Monument and Nexgrill are the better budget grill brands.
Buy. Learn. Save $ for a Weber.
