About halfway through the month and I’ve been loving the incentive to be creative each day.

Day 8: just nice and simple tinned salmon on some steamed sticky rice from Costco. Working through the Fishwife gift pack we received. The chili crisp one was tasty but I actually preferred the regular smoked salmon from them. It was way more tender. But maybe just variability between tins. This one was still good and didn’t need anything beyond rice.

Day 9: threw some anchovies in our martinis 🍸 These had a lot more chew than I’m used to with tinned anchovies, but I liked it for this purpose. Also slightly “sweeter” than I’d expected? Not unpleasant. Just interesting.

Day 10: Melted the rest of the anchovies in a pan with olive oil, boiled some fresh tagliatelle, threw in toasted pecans, wilted arugula, and Bela lemon 🍋 sardines, with some Romano cheese and salsa macha.

Day 11: This seems to be a go-to combo. A smear of sour cream and mayo on hearty toasted bread, smoked wild kippers, capers, and a grating of cured egg yolk. Admittedly, I preferred the TJs smoked herring in oil we had on Day 1 over the Bar Harbor, which made me a little sad since we are in Maine, but not that sad since TJs is cheaper. This was tasty nonetheless!

Day 12: This was a winner. Smoked octopus from Wildfish. Japanese sweet potato bisque 🍠. A bunch of accoutrements. Freaking delicious.

Day 13: Fangst smoked trout with juniper berries and lemon thyme. Norwegian crisp bread. Torres “caviar” chips. Some salsa espinaler. Fantastic.

Day 14: Fried rice with Santo Amaro Portuguese sardines in spring water. They were perfect in the fried rice, and our calico Manx, Octavia, was very willing to help finish the spring water. (I checked first to make sure it wasn’t salty.).
