As 2026 begins, only 9 Romano’s Macaroni Grill locations remain across the U.S.

Founded in Leon Springs, Tex. in 1988, the Italian chain, which was once called “a next generation Olive Garden,” boasted over 200 locations in the early 2000s.

Most recently the company’s storefront in Susquehanna Township in Pennsylvania shut its doors.

“We are permanently closed. Thank you for 20 great years!” read a sign posted on the door in late November, according to a report from PennLive.

At least four other locations closed last year, according to reports from various outlets.

Those included the chain’s last remaining locations in Sacramento, Calif., and San Antonio, Tex., and stores in Reno, Nev. and Honolulu, Hawaii.

There were at least two Romano’s in Alabama, in Huntsville and Birmingham, but those are also closed.

The company has been in a steady decline since filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2017, citing a drop off in sales and rising costs, according to PacerMonitor filings.

About 16 of the restaurants remain in operation in California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada and Ohio, according to the website.

Romano’s has one remaining Texas location in operation, in McAllen.
