SAND SPRINGS, Okla. –
A local ice cream shop is embracing the winter season with new flavors designed to bring customers through the door during the colder months. Big Dipper Creamery is featuring a rotating lineup of January-only scoops, along with its popular ice cream flights that let customers sample several flavors at once.
New flavors for the new year
Big Dipper Creamery introduced several new flavors for January, ranging from fruit-forward options to rich, coffee-inspired creations.
Sami Cooper with Big Dipper Creamery said one standout is a Philippine mango flavor, along with a Sicilian pistachio. Another new option is “Bean Me Up Scotty,” a salted sweet cream ice cream with espresso chips inspired by Star Trek.
From cart to community staple
What began as a small ice cream cart in 2017 has grown steadily into a multi-location business. Big Dipper Creamery first opened inside Mother Road Market in 2017, followed by its Sand Springs shop in 2018 and later a Brookside location.
Cooper said rotating flavors helps keep both staff and customers engaged.
She said the shop enjoys encouraging customers to try flavors they may not normally choose, including combinations like goat cheese with cherry and toasted pecan. Cooper said the goal is to highlight different events and holidays throughout the year with flavors that match the season.
Sampling with ice cream flights
Customers who want to try multiple monthly flavors can order an ice cream flight. Cooper said the flights were created to highlight seasonal events and holidays throughout the year.
She said the team meets regularly to review past flavors, test new ideas and decide how to use local ingredients and community influences in future offerings.
Community collaborations ahead
Big Dipper Creamery is already planning for February, including a collaboration with Super Secret Donuts. The partnership is timed to National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day on Feb. 7 and will feature a donut-inspired ice cream made with the bakery’s salted caramel with smoked sea salt and brioche donuts.
Limited-time offerings
Cooper said the January flavors are only available for the month and will not return once they are gone.
Customers can find the monthly flavors at any Big Dipper Creamery location, including Mother Road Market, Brookside and Sand Springs. Cooper is also preparing to open a new storefront in South Tulsa at 91st Street and Sheridan Road, with plans to open in early spring.
