Hello everyone! I wanted to show and tell my experience with my first full year brewing coffee. I loved coffee since I was a kid (I know, not good for me then!) Many years later I decided to get back into it as my S/O kept getting expensive coffee at basic chain cafes, when I knew I could do better. I got a V60 set and a Bodum Goose Neck Kettle to start with. Went to my local coffee shop (Phin’s Smith) and got their pre-grounded beans. It’s a Vietnamese shop so I also bought a Phin with the coffee. I worked with what I had and practiced my pour over.

Soon after I got a King Grinder P1 as a gift and I started using whole beans. I found out lighter roast go great with the V60. I kept a journal to record my beans and techniques I would do. My go to technique is the 4:6 method, very easy to use.

I wanted something different because I felt like I kept messing up with my V60 due to my bodum kettle. So I got Aeropress as it doesn’t really need a stable pour lol. Started leveling up on that, S/O got me a metal filter and a flow control cap to make a better espresso like. I can now make a Spanish Latte and a S’mores Latte with ease. S/O really likes these ones.

I had 3 methods of making coffee at this point. My S/O saw how much I wanted my V60 to work out, so she got me a Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Kettle for my birthday. Literally the best gift ever, my V60 has never been better. Temp is always perfect.

All in all, this has been a great year for coffee. Reddit was a constant and consistent resource and I learned a lot from everyone so I would like to thank you all. Brewing coffee is my go to ritual and I love it. It has helped me from smoking/vaping and it gets me up in the morning with a smile on my face. Keeps the wifey happy as well!

Quick Questions:
For my King Grinder P1, I dial it down until it can’t turn anymore, then I click it 10 times to the left to set it to what I believe is 0. Do y’all do the same or do you set it to 0 as soon as it doesn’t go any further? I haven’t found a straight answer.

After getting my Fellow Kettle I decided to get into other fun interests like Yerba Mate and now matcha, have y’all done the same? My next thing I would like to get into is the Gaiwan tea or herbal tea brewing, which ever falls into my lap first.

Thank you all again! Happy new years!
