When Colbert asked Lady Gaga the question “What’s your favorite sandwich?” she gave an immediate gut answer of “an Italian sub.” The classic East Coast sandwich has some regional variations, but often includes several kinds of cured meats including salami, capocolla, and pepperoni.
There’s an Italian cheese as well, commonly provolone. Add-ins such as jarred banana peppers, red onion, and sliced pickles are often included. Swipe some mayo on one side of a hoagie roll, and some oil, red wine vinegar, and oregano on the other and you’ve got Lady Gaga’s favorite sandwich!
