Had a fantastic dinner at Arlo Grey this week. It had been a couple years since I've been there. I love the ambience in the evening – darkish interior with low lighting, not overrun with crowds, no noise issues, and tables not on top of each other. So much more pleasant and evening than some of the more popular places.
Food was very good. Unfortunately I only have this one pic of the food. Here's what we had:
Burrata with 'nduja dressing – loved it. Excellent burrata encircled in an 'nduja oil (as it seemed to me). I am huge fan of 'nduja and there was just enough spice to add a kick and flavor to the burrata. The grilled sourdough served with it is always good, but they should double the pieces served from 2 to 4.
Cauliflower – also really good. Seemed grilled or roasted, with some light seasonings on it. Had a bit of cream of some type with it that was nice with it.
Fried steamed buns – another one I loved. The Chard broccoli with chili oil was amazing. I used the buns to lap up all the sauce that was with the broccoli.
Crispy rice with crab & green beans – another knockout. This is one of my SO's fav dishes in Austin, and it is well deserved.
The SO also ordered the burger and it was good, but after all the above I only had a bite of that. Good quality burger with house made pickles and Kewpie mayo, served with a nice side salad. Probably not winning best in Austin but still very good for anyone craving a high quality burger.
Dessert – Basque cheesecake shown in pic. Had a poached apple, candied pecans, and caramel sauce
Service was good. Even the trainee bringing out some of the dishes did a great job.
Cost of all that was about $100 before tax and tip. I had no complaints there.
While this place might not be in the top 5 recommended places in Austin, I think the quality and accessibility really provides some nice depth to our restaurants here.
