Been doing BBQ for a couple years now and never made my own sauce until today. I usually just use Sweet Baby Rays, however I don’t like it in its original form that much and always modify it. Today I decided to finally make my own from scratch, as I modify it so much anyways to have it tasting the way I like. I was pretty much using it as my ketchup.

It’s not necessarily the color and texture that I would associate with BBQ sauce but if it tasted good then it doesn’t really matter
That’s great. I’m all about making your own. Would be sure to label it. Assuming you didn’t use any preservatives to know when it goes bad.
Not asking for a recipe but some ingredients that make it yummy and unique would’ve been cool
Look a bit thin.
That’s a step in the right direction! Now you’re going to be hooked on fiddling with it. 😅
What does it taste and smell like?
Looks like it would go well with some vodka and celery. 😋
How did it turn out? Nice work?
This sub is becoming the worst. Dude can’t even post something he’s proud of without a bunch of shit talkers. He never said it’s the greatest bbq sauce ever. He never said it’s YOUR favorite bbq sauce. He said he made it himself from scratch, and clearly he’s proud of it. Some of you really suck.
Looks like there’s garlic. Lots of garlic.
awesome work. homemade bbq sauce is so much better than out of a bottle. I got a copy of bbq sauces, rubs, and marinades for dummies, and while I’m smoking meats I pick a sauce and make it. it’s been a great way to figure out what I like.
Congrats. I’m a fan of making bbq sauce from scratch. I’ll never buy store bought anymore
OP would you be willing to share the recipe?
Nicely done. I also like making my own, vinegar based with pickled jalapeño.
Hell yeah
awesome!
been making my own sauces for years! its great being able to customize to your own specifications. Makes every cook that much more personal.
keep it up!
My apologies for not sharing my ingredients (I didn’t use a set recipe, I stole the ingredients from a few different recipes and just made it to my own taste). Bar-A BBQ has a very similar recipe. Heavier on the ketchup, about half that amount for mustard. I adjust the taste and add more of a certain ingredient after I’ve whisked it well since I know exactly the taste I’m going for.
Ingredients:
•Ketchup
•Mustard
•Honey
•Brown sugar
•White sugar
•White vinegar
•Apple cider vinegar
•Water
•Granulated garlic
•White pepper
•Smoked Paprika
•Cumin powder
•Black pepper
•Soy sauce
It looks used…
Good job man! Bbq sauce is a top three condiment and it ain’t three
What do you call it?
Came for the salsa recipe leaving with a bbq recipe not even mad!
I’m proud of you man! Looks excellent!
Good for you!
BBQ sauce is pretty easy to make and I don’t know why more people don’t make their own. It’s 3 basic ingredients and you can modify from there to make it your own.
1 part Tomato base (I use tomato sauce)
1 part Vinegar (I use apple cider)
1 part Sugar (I use brown sugar)
That’s really the basics and of course it needs seasoning and other stuff but if you can remember these 3 ingredients you can make BBQ sauce and it will most likely be better than store bought. Make it your own! Have fun!
Hell yeah, man! While it can be a pain in the butt, it’s always better than store bought.
I’m not a sweet baby rays fan. I like bbq sauce even on perfectly cooked bbq I don’t care. I prefer sauce with flavor a spice if I saw this in the grocery store I’d buy it at least once. We make fajitas cooked to perfection and add hot sauce every time I feel the same with my bbq sauce.
looking like some dank meat salsa… SEND ME A BOTTLE
You have inspired me good sir.
Dude good for you! If it turns out to be a winner, water bath some of that so you can keep it in your pantry.
Sounds delicious. Ingredients I use that you might want to play with and I didn’t see on your recipe: onion powder, Worcestershire sauce.
