Located in Church Street, it opened in 2023 under owners Rob Walpole and Ruth Watson, a TV presenter and food writer.

It serves a predominantly Italian-inspired menu which focuses on seasonality and regionality.

The menu includes antipasti such as octopus, fried potatoes and ‘nudja, whole brown shrimps with Amalfi lemon, and burrata with tardivo, blood orange and fennel.

Secondi consists of dishes made mostly in the wood-fired oven, including slow-cooked Suffolk pork belly and chicken alla Milanese.

Watson and Walpole also offer a set dinner menu and is one of many to be taking part in the Good Food Guide’s Restaurant Month.

Up until February 13, diners can order a feasting menu for £25 at lunch on Tuesday through Saturday.

Speaking about the Suffolk restaurant, an inspector for the Good Food Guide said: “Framlingham’s castle on the hill may be the stuff of song these days but this neighbourhood Italian, just a few steps down from that hill, deserves a hit serenade too.

“‘Spot-on, absolutely delicious,’ noted one diner, applauding a Dover sole, precisely roasted to that moment when the flesh slips easily from bone.

“Watson and Walpole is a place to eat deliciously all ‘italiana, so come hungry.”
