Had the joy of attending a Rayas dinner at my wine club. We had 3 bottles each so had plenty to taste and share among the 16 of us.
Had the following wines:
2020 Domaine des Tours Vin Pays de Vaucluse Rouge
2020 Chateau des Tours Cote Du Rhone
2012 chateau de Fonsalette cote du Rhone Blanc 2012
Chateau des tours grande reserve 2015
Chateau de fonsalette cote du Rhone rouge 2014
2014 Chateau Rayas: Very light ruby red colour, Cherries, fresh herbs, spiciness, some floral notes. Very refined, not heavy, more medium body, supple finish, not very long.
2010 Chateau Rayas: Deep purple colour, Beautiful nose with deep cherry and raspberry. Med to full bodied, but still elegant. Longer finish than the 2014, slight tannic. Very burgundy like. I can drink this all night.
The two Rayas were so different, The 2014 were lighter in colour and more finesse, drinking so well. Where as the 2010 was darker and powerful.
The Fonsalette was drinking well too.
On this night, the 2010 Rayas was my personal favourite, but the majority of others preferred the 2014.

THaTs infanticide, I can’t believe you all got that much money and like wine, and in the same time drinking wine that young, that’s so stupid
Wine from M.Reynaud must be drank aged, you must wait 10 y more
Booo, not enough notes.
This sounds like an amazing dinner that’s out of reach for most of us. I think some more detailed notes would help. I actually don’t even know which wine you liked more?
Holy shit. My fav producer. Pialade is my fav wine ever. I am so jealous
Can we be friends?
If you get the chance, 08 is one of the best vintages I have had from them…
The owner died this last fall if I’m not mistaken? I was lucky enough to try two different years of that wine, fantastic wine. We made a night out of it. Edit: talking about Rayas
RIP Emmanuel. 🕊️ What a stellar lineup.
Ouch
Very nice! I have at least one bottle of Vin Pays. I will hold on to it. lol.
wow
Someone went to the Vintage Conservatory dinner in Toronto last night.
Any notes, at least from the favourites? Because right now this is just bottle porn.
Never had a Rayas, on my wish list
Any insights into Rayas as a whole from the experience?
It’s rare to get this sort of immersive cross-section of both the wines and the producer as they evolve, of *any* producer much less this one, and I think we’d all love to actually hear about it.
