I bought the DF64 gen 2 about a year ago. I love the quality of grinds it gives and I updated to ssp burrs and the espresso tastes better than ever (like rich flavor, decent texture – truly a league of difference compared to my BBE) but MAN this thing clogs up all the time. Please tell me some tips on that if you want, I am considering removing the plastic distributor/declumpor bit bc I don’t think it helps with anything especially with RDT and WDT. (I removed all the espresso bits clogged everywhere after pics btw). BUT what frustrates me the most is the design flaw I encountered when I undid my most recent clog. I do my usual, take off the top, clean up the clumps, remove the chute, vacuum everything, and then when I reassembled it all the bottom burr stopped moving entirely. Like motor on but no movement. I started bursting into beads of sweat thicker than classic espresso ristretto. My wife got mad at me and ragebought herself a nespresso (but whatever it’s fine I can’t judge bc I sometimes drink a monster zero sugar after an espresso – I call it the mullet espresso/Kyleccino). I couldn’t find anything online about this and started panicking and realized I should probably also switch to nespresso bc I failed.
And then at my lowest point I looked back inside the container thinking how this could be at least a cool paperweight or something and then I noticed this ridiculous design – the two screws for the chute (pic 1) thread INTO the grinder (pic 2 with red circle). I somehow over screwed and the screw itself was sticking out and had caught and stuck the bottom burr. A few lefty loosey turns and she was purring like a kitten. I took a sip of zero sugar original monster and told my wife that I was a genius and I am basically Lance Hendrick. I put the machine back together and it’s working like nothing happened with no regret and didn’t feel bad at all for the marital and personal turmoil it had caused.
Just wanted to put this out there so y’all are aware and if you encounter this situation. In the meantime I’m gonna decide if I should just buy a Weber so the next time I can get mad at an even more expensive grinder that likely has some silly design flaw that my clumsy self will expose. Either that or Monster Zero straight from a keg.
Cheers!

What are those two wires in pic 1 for?

I’m dyin’ here. DYIN’
I have a DF52 and ahve the same issues – the retention is problematic. I’m just going to tear it down quarterly.
I had the same problem and bought a metal declumper upgrade. I’ve been waiting for it to jam up again to change it, but it hasn’t jammed since. It may have been the coffee causing the issue.
Can any of you actually taste a difference between dosing a single shot every time vs just grinding 18g (or whatever) from a hopper?
I’ve had the DF64 gen 2 for a few years (original burrs) and not had any issues with clogging whatsoever.
I do spritz the beans before grinding which I feel also helps reduce static/retention, and pump the bellows lightly while grinding to prevent retention from building up.
I also pump the bellows pretty hard after grinding (if the cup is empty, otherwise you send coffee flying everywhere) to clear pretty much all retention, and I definitely notice that it builds up pretty quickly if I don’t pump the bellows and can definitely see it clogging if left unchecked for too long.
I’ve been waiting for mine to be delivered for over a month… I’m just glad to hear this company is real. I was beginning to think I’ve been scammed.
Wait one goddamn minute. My DF64 Gen 2 looks nothing like that

I had issues with my DF54 clogging and having static issues constantly. Was tearing my hair out, sent it in for a check under warranty etc. All was well apparently.
The fix was switching from dark roast to medium roast. Now I get zero static and blockages. Night and day difference. Now a good machine that I’m happy with.
