New to wine, can anyone tell me about this bottle and how I can make the most of it?
I was thinking of using it in a sauce to go with some lamb but something tells me it’s worth more than that.

Have you tried googling it?
Don’t put it on a sauce, drink it!

That is a cheap 10 euro wine, I wouldn’t stress much. Drink it sooner rather than later, it’s not meant for keeping it long (even this is stretching it).

It’s a second wine of Château Lamothe Begeron, mostly merlot. It’s probably something you’d get for €15-20/£13-18 or so. Thoroughly decent, I’d imagine, with a good bit of age on it. Probably nice with something meaty bit but not too rich. I would not use this in a sauce unless it was a day or so past drinking

It’s prob primarily a mix of Cab Sauv and Merlot, maybe some Cab Franc, from the Haut-Medoc, a sub-region of Bordeaux. A “second wine” of a Bordeaux estate is literally just their second-best wine, maybe made from the somewhat lower quality grapes, or more likely, their younger vines, which produce less concentrated wines in their early stages. ’17 was a good vintage in Bdx and even inexpensive examples like this can easily age- this is ready to enjoy for sure. I haven’t tried any from this estate, but I’d expect a pretty earthy wine- think coffee, leafy tobacco, pencil shavings, leathery kind of notes alongside dark plummy fruit. That’s just an average snapshot of what lightly aged Bordeaux is like. The more important thing is that you tell us what you think. Not a super fancy wine, probably in the $20 range max considering that the “first wine” of the estate is listed as avg $25 on wine-searcher, but again, that doesn’t mean it can’t be delicious
It’ll be great paired with any meaty dish (avoid super spicy or super sweet foods.) lmk if you have more questions.
This is a solid Bordeaux. Not ordinary, not special. Ready to drink.
I suggest you prepare some lamb, open the bottle, pour some of the wine into a glass – and drink the wine while enjoying your lamb. Best served 16-18ºC.
It’s a bit better than what one would normally use for a sauce. But if you use 20% of the bottle for the sauce and drink the rest, that’s not unreasonable.

you could taste it before cooking, it can be dual purposed, upper Médocs can age if well kept, have a taste of its evolution, Here’s its [profile ](https://lamothebergeron.fr/en/brand/demoiselles-de-bergeron-en/) on the estate site.
it’s mass market just drink it or use it for cooking
