This was diced up leftover chicken (Capon for $0.99/lb) from a breast. The breast had 1/3 rd of the meat eaten last night during dinner. This can easily be enough for 2 or 3 people if you make the right meal. That’s not counting the rest of the bird.
I’ll buy several turkeys around thanksgiving and freeze the. The frozen ones have use by dates so they can easily stay frozen for a year or more.
Even if you don’t have the room, full turkeys in the grocery store are about as cheap of protein you’ll find for meat not on sale. If you want the 15 or 20+ lb birds then get them. However for a family of four 9 or 10 lb bird can feed the family and still have enough for leftovers.

I’ve had good luck getting .99 frozen turkey breasts which are great for doing “rotisserie” crock pot cooking. Google “Rotisserie chicken turkey breast foil balls” for tons of recipes. PLUS save those bones in a freezer bag and when you have a few pounds worth make a pot of bone broth.
the last time i bought a small cheap turkey , it wasn’t even worth cooking …
Nice! This looks good
This winter I bought two 15+ pound frozen turkeys when they were .59¢ per pound before Thanksgiving. Then I bought two 10 pound-ish fully cooked turkeys when they were on clearance for around.99¢ per pound after Christmas.
One of the frozen ones is in my deep freezer, the other I butchered and made confit turkey leg quarters to use in cassoulet for Thanksgiving. The breast I poached and used for soup (the poaching liquid was the start of my stock. I then used all of the bones and drippings to make a luscious stock. The poached breasts made several lovely soups.
The pre-cooked turkeys were heated, all the meat was pulled from the bones, then the skin/wings/bones/drippings all went to make demi glacé. Most of the meat is in my freezer waiting to go into soups and stews.
Sometimes I also buy cheap turkeys and butcher the entire thing to make homemade sausage (a meat grinder is great, but you can also use a food processor to “grind” the meat. Then of course the bones become stock.
Great meat too. I really like turkey even if it’s not thanksgiving
