I tried baking sourdough this weekend. It’s part of my deep grief healing right now. I have been really nervous to take it on.

This is my second loaf. I couldn’t wait for a crumb shot, I’m sorry, the ear made me feral. What do you think?

Why does sourdough = instant obsession? Why do I wake up thinking about bread?

It doesn’t seem like there’s a strong overlap between grief/depression and sourdough. Maybe it’s the act of creation that feels healing.

Anyway, that’s one hell of a loaf.

Bread baking is the best healing ever. Not only do you have bread at the end of the bake, but your whole house smells amazing.

Also yes – u/automatic soap dispense is a bread god.

You are not a SD God. But be well anyway.

The next level would be visiting my kitchen to replicate it. 🙂

I find baking sourdough slows things down a bit. It takes just enough time and attention to get out of your head. The result is rewarding even when it is not perfect because YOU are part of the process. Also I get a sense of accomplishment which can be quite the dopamine hit.

And yes, that is one beautiful loaf of bread.

I know on days when I have to bake in the oven I’m a little antsy and if it doesn’t spring too well I’m a little upset for the rest of the day

Welcome to the world of sourdough. May I invite you to next look into whole grain or rye/wheat sourdoughs? Basically bread that can double as a full meal.
