As big fans of Greek cuisine, we were eager to try The Souvlaki, which is now open on Market Gate.
What started off as a street food stall in the summer of 2015 at Kingston Ancient Market soon expanded.
The business became popular, and in 2018, it opened its first restaurant in Kingston Upon Thames.
The Souvlaki is now open on Market Gate in Warrington town centre
Now, The Souvlaki has nine established franchise restaurant branches – with its Warrington eatery opening this month.
According to The Souvlaki’s website: “We love cooking, and people love eating our food, as we offer consistency in every single meal.
“We import and use traditional natural Greek products like Cretan extra virgin olive oil, feta cheese, olives, original Cypriot halloumi, Greek pita bread, and homemade sauces.
“Our food is made from high-quality ingredients, and the great taste comes from the always freshly cooked meat and the secret homemade sauces that set our products apart from our competitors.”
Diners can eat in or take away
Keen to sample what was on offer, we popped down for a midweek midday sample, opting for a popular choice on the extensive menu.
The Souvlaki serves dishes including souvlaki wraps, ribeye steak, salads, souvlaki boxes, and more, but we chose a traditional gyros.
A popular Greek street food consisting of meat – we went for a mix of pork and chicken – slow-roasted on a vertical spit and thinly sliced, and seasoned with herbs, gyros dishes are served wrapped in pita bread with chunky chips, salad and sauce.
We chose a spicy tomato feta sauce which, although not too spicy, was extremely tasty, with flavours of feta cheese powering through.
A selection of sweet treats are available
The gyros had a generous helping of meat, which was piping hot, succulent, and flavourful, and the pitta itself was also tasty and soaked up the sauce well.
We were full after our visit, but those with a sweet tooth could be tempted by a dessert fridge offering a selection of after-dinner goods.
Staff behind the counter were also extremely friendly and could not do enough to help.
Overall, we definitely enjoyed our food and would happily recommend.
