I don’t get all the hate, the only complaint I have for Ichiran is that the eggs are not marinated. Otherwise, I absolutely love it and make a point to go at least once or twice a trip.

My favourite place is a chicken stock ramen place in Ikebukuro but generally, perhaps because I’m western, I like most ramen I’ve had to date. Ichiran included. I was first taken there by a Japanese guy who liked to visit from time to time and found it a pleasant experience.

Compared to the rest of the world’s tonkotsu ramen offerings, it is probably better than 95%. When compared to Japan’s tonkotsu ramen offerings, it is a solid 6.5/10. I think for anyone’s first time ever in Japan, dining at Ichiran is sort of like a rite of passage (more so for the dining experience). I am not an Ichiran “lover” but also do not understand the hate it gets. I don’t think anyone could objectively say they offer a bad/low quality product. People hating just to hate.

Not with that much green onion. Flavor med, rich, 1/2 clove, with green onions, of course Chashu, 5 on the spice. This is the way.
