LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Michigan Families for Fair Care and Punks with Lunch Lansing held a winter clothing and food drive Saturday at Reuter Park in Lansing.
People attending the drive were able to walk down a row of tables holding packed lunches, warming drinks, winter clothes, basic hygiene supplies, and harm reduction tools.
Organizers said events like these are important to continue because many people in Michigan are facing a higher cost of living.
“It’s a tough time, it’s incredibly cold out here, you know people are struggling to make ends meet with higher grocery costs, higher costs on winter clothes,” said Steve Lawson with Michigan Families for Fair Care. “So we are out here trying to fill that gap and make a difference and try to make sure people stay warm in this freezing cold winter.”
Punks with Lunch Lansing said that, along with harm reduction tools, they offer recovery resources if people need help in their recovery journey.
