If can’t have escaped your attention that we’re now into February, which means that Valentine’s Day is now just around the corner. And if, even for just a few hours, you want to feel like you’ve been whisked away for a night in Paris, there’s a restaurant in Newcastle that can help fulfil that fantasy.

Let’s be honest, never mind 31 days, January felt like it had at least 97, with the stretch between New Year and the end of the month feeling like it went on FOREVER., Sure, there was Restaurant Week in the middle of it to bring some much needed light to an otherwise dark and dreary month, but I’m sure you’ll agree that January dragged and dragged.

And, as we start afresh on a new month in Newcastle, a certain date for the diary in now less than two weeks away. Whether you’re single or happily loved up, there are plenty of places ready to cater your culinary needs as Cupid draws back his bow once again.

Helpfully, dining experts at OpenTable have just released a list of the top 100 most romantic restaurants in the UK, to give people some date night food for thought. Eight of the ones to make the cut are from the North East, with several located in Newcastle city centre. And we’re going to declare, based on OpenTable’s critique and customer reviews, that the most romantic of them all is The French Quarter.

Chances are that you might not have been to The French Quarter, or even be familiar where it is, given that its in one of the arches at the bottom end of Westgate Road, in a tucked away part of town, that many of us drive or walk straight past on the way to catch a train at Central. If you’re a huge fan of Netflix smash Emily in Paris and fancy feeling like you’re dining at Gabriel’s L’Espirit de Gigi restaurant, we unfortunately can’t stretch to a holiday to the French capital for you all, but we can heartily recommend you try the next best thing with a meal at The French Quarter – you can even order snails if you so wish!

The fact that its owners declare they have ‘ a passion for the good things in life.’ had us sold from the get-go and, if you don’t want to follow our advice, the reviews for The French Quarter speak for themselves, with a 5 star one from January, seeing a satisfied customer enthuse: ‘This place is a gem. Don’t delay, just go there and enjoy quality french food and excellent service in a great location.’

Also full of praise for the restaurant and wine bar, a second raved: ‘My favourite Newcastle restaurant! Always try to get a reservation whenever I travel there. Has a fantastic and friendly vibe, modern French cuisine that always delicious and contemporary! Delightful service, drinks and wine list!’
