TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The Southern Arizona Animal Food Bank is seeking the community’s assistance after experiencing a significant theft of dog food.
The food bank reported that thousands of pounds of dog food were stolen from its storage facility. Two pallets, each holding more than 1,000 pounds of food, were taken. The loss, discovered on Monday, Jan. 24, came after a donation was left over the weekend. The stolen items include at least 48 bags weighing 44 pounds each, along with hundreds of pounds of treats and wet food.
The Southern Arizona Animal Food Bank serves between 100 and 150 families each month. The theft has made their mission much harder.
“You can imagine losing $8,000 worth of product is devastating to any organization and that is a major setback for us as well,” Director of Food Distribution David Zinke said.
Police are investigating the theft. The food bank is appealing for cash or food donations to help replenish the stolen supplies.
