Warren — Metro Detroit is so amped up about Paczki Day that even the Italian bakeries get in on the action.

Tringali’s Bakery at Schoenherr and 12 Mile has been supplying customers with breads, cakes and cannoli for nearly 70 years. Each February, though, it’s all about paczki.

The bakery is stocked now with classic flavors such as the popular raspberry, custard and buttercream. Tringali’s also puts an Italian spin on some, like the cannoli paczki and cappuccino cream paczki.

It was the bakery’s peanut butter paczki that caught my eye, though. There’s sugar-dusted paczki with a piped peanut butter and raspberry jelly filling, and a peanut butter cup version with a peanut butter cream and a chocolate shell top.

Of the two, the PB&J paczki was the favorite. It’s a mix of classic flavors from the chewy pastry and sweet jelly with a dash of something new, the creamy peanut butter.

Tringali’s is stocked with several flavors of paczki now. For Fat Tuesday on Feb. 17, they are expecting long lines of customers. Placing a preorder is suggested, which is picked up in a faster-moving line.

Italian paczki (cannoli and cappuccino) are $42.99 per dozen, $25.99 per half dozen or $4.89 each. Regular paczki are $34.99 per dozen, $22.99 half dozen and $3.99 each.

Tringali’s Bakery, 29100 Schoenherr in Warren, is open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tues.-Fri., 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Sat. and 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Sun. Call (586) 777-9010.
