CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) – Heads up, gardeners! Kick off gardening season with a free community event set for this Saturday in Carbondale.
Food Works, in partnership with Carbondale Food Autonomy, will host the 2026 Annual Spring Seed Swap on February 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Food Works Winter Farmers Market.
The event will take place inside Carbondale Community High School (Giant City Entrance), located at 1301 Walnut Street.
According to organizers, participants are encouraged, but not required, to bring seeds they have saved from vegetables, herbs, or flowers to share with other guests.
Plants are also welcome, but genetically modified seeds are not permitted.
In addition to seed sharing, the event will feature educational opportunities, including information on:
Starting and cultivating seedlingsMaking your own seed-starting mixBest practices for early-season garden planning
Organizers say the Seed Swap will take place alongside the Food Works Winter Farmers Market, so attendees will be able to shop with local food vendors, connect with fellow gardeners and learn from community experts.
Gardeners of all experience levels are invited to attend.
