I see a lot of people showing off their wings and chicken and I was wondering if the Vortex is a must have for chicken wing lovers? Aside for Chicken, does the Vortex serve a purpose that the SNS doesn’t do as well?

Curious to know this as well as I just bought a SNS

The vortex funnels the heat to the top center of the lid and keeps it moving around the food. The SnS is a fancy charcoal basket. Will not do the same as a vortex.

I’ve got a SNS and a vortex. Just from personal anecdotal experience the skin on the chicken tends to get crispier from the vortex.

Outside of that I use the SNS for pretty much everything else.

The S&S is simply a charcoal basket. I believe the vortex is a bit more effective because its shape funnels the heat through the middle and draws in all the air from the vents right below. It really gets to a much hotter temperature in the middle compared to if you just had your charcoal piled up. So if you want the really crispy skin and a quicker cook, the vortex is pretty worthwhile even if you have the SNS. Not too bad considering the vortex is fairly cheap on Amazon plus there are many different versions available

If you got a normal 22”, just get the medium sized

I have both, vortex I really only use for wings. Sns I use for everything else, it really never leaves the grill.
