Tried Flower Child last night and it did not disappoint. We ordered the Mediterranean chicken kabobs, avocado hummus with pita and vegetables. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well-portioned.

Fresh and healthy basically means that it won’t fill me up and is overpriced. Sorry, but these pics don’t really help your case.

50 dollars could sure buy a lot of raw veggies if that is what you are into

Avocado humus. This is a weird looking plate imo.

Typical AustinFood already complaining that this isn’t a pile of meat served on a trash can lid for under $10 so they won’t get full and it’s overpriced.
Flower Child is delicious and good value for the quality. Highly recommend.

I’m a huge fan of this place when my company is getting catering and it’s not on my dime. If I have to pay myself I find sweetgreen or cava to be a better value while still being healthy and relatively light.

They cater to a certain market. Their food is better than average but its a rare occasion thing when the body doesn’t want anything heavy.

The yakisoba noodles at Flower Child are really good.

I can go to the grocery store and just buy can veggies and steam them myself. No need to go out for this.

I really enjoy Flower Child when I go but I always sort of forget about it when I’m trying to pick a place. And for people saying that’s too expensive, it’s for two entrees and an appetizer made with fresh produce. I feel like $50 is pretty reasonable for dinner for two?

It’s the best of the corporate slop bowl chains. I really like the red chile sweet potatoes and the kung pao cauliflower.
Structure-Tall
I work nearby and get their children’s plate often. It is a main and two sides and it’s not a ton of food, but enough for a healthy lunch, and around 11 bucks.

$50 girl dinner. Lmfao

Their sweet potato fries and ranch are so good

They took their salmon off the menu. It wasn’t the best quality, but I liked it better than their other proteins.

Look up their nutrition sheet. I can’t link it. I guess it’s “healthy” if you need a week’s worth of sodium in a sitting.

Hummus and kebabs are cheap street food where I come from. I just can’t get myself to pay almost $50 for something like this. No matter how good it is.
The kebabs were $16 each. I hope they at least came with rice or some form of carb.
GreenAguacate
I can make that food easily under 10dollars and still have a lot of overs veggies left over for 5 more rounds of portions haha

This place does not care about you. they feed you compromised food, and management does not care that standards are not upheld or enforced.
I used to work here, for about 6 months, as a cook. If there is anything I can tell you that is the single most important thing you should know about this place… DON’T EAT HERE! I’m a chef with 20 years in the industry and Ive worked iv various places both small and corporate chains. I can tell you with absolute certainty that this is the DIRTIEST KITCHEN IN AUSTIN. and this information is backed by vendors and service providers all over Austin. I cant be in every kitchen so I ask. and this place. the Flowerchild on 2nd And Nueces Is the most filthy restaurant downtown that you can eat.
TO PROVIDE MY OWN EXPERIENCE AS A COOK AND EMPLOYEE AT THIS PLACE!!!
I was looking for a skillet one day to make a batch of the vegan chorizo. When I went to the stack of clean skillets to get one for myself I noticed that the one at the top of the stack looked… odd. It looked like there had been rice burned to the bottom of the pan. like a carpet when you walk away and everything sticks to the pan you’re cooking. RICE WAS NOT AN INGREDIENT IN THE RESTAURANT! What I was seeing on this pan was a thick layer of maggots that had grown out of whatever layer of food that was left on the pan after washing.
The second thing I saw happen, multiple times, was the coolant lines for the refrigerator busted. they ran above the kitchen workspace and when there was a freeze in the line it would rupture and leak the coolant from the refrigeration unit all over the kitchen. Management’s response was to “wipe it down and continue working for service.” Mind you I’m not talking about a drip leak. I mean the ceiling was raining down on all of us. Gallons of chemicals spilled over all the equipment, food containers and work surfaces.
Eat here at your own risk, if you feel sick sometimes after lunch. you probably ate some bugs and chemicals.

They took my go-to order off their menu so I haven’t been back since it went away 😢
