Paulette, the “quirky” and “phenomenal” French bistro in London

The Good Food Guide labelled Paulette as a “quirky old-fashioned bistro with bags of natural charm”, awarding it the overall rating of “very good”.

Explaining why the Maida Vale spot made the list, the outlet shared: “This delightfully eccentric bistro has all the trappings of a quirky dining room belonging to a rich, dotty aunt who has travelled the world and is partial to a midday tipple.”

Adding: “There’s a natural charm to the place and we’d venture there’s nowhere else quite like it in London.

“That natural charm extends to the attentive staff who will greet you like a long-lost friend, even if it’s your first visit – although we got the impression that many guests in the packed, buzzy room were regulars.

“You may find it hard to resist their offer of some reasonably priced fizz to fill the stylish etched Champagne coupe that’s ready and waiting for you at your table.”

Paulette was inspired by the “generous spirit of Arcachon” and dishes created by French grandmothers, according to the restaurant’s website.

The restaurant’s menu changes for each season, with ingredients sourced from local suppliers and small French producers.

Guests at Paulette can enjoy the likes of grilled halibut fillet with chives and fish roe, Rabbit leg served with mashed potatoes and homemade pasta filled with Comté.

On Tripadvisor, the restaurant has an overall rating of 4.7 out of 5, while on Google Reviews is has a score of 4.8 out of 5.

One recent guest who took to Tripadvisor shared they had a “fabulous evening” at the bistro, writing: “The cuisine and also the team here are phenomenal”.
