My local grocery hardly ever has premade Japanese food and today they did! However, it seems to have a million ingredients for something so simple.

Today I learned that a simple onigiri could have a thousand ingredients

Leave it to Americans to turn a 5 ingredient whole foods based recipe into a 200 ingredient monster.

They had these at my grocery store. Rice was cold, stale and hard 🤢

I’ve tried this brand. I was sad. So very, very sad. I genuinely hope you like them, though! If not, they’re super simple to make yourself.

The sad reality of just one of the reasons why Japanese konbini onigiri is just not possible in America…

So much packaging for a handful of dry crumbly rice.

I had this one. It was gross. The rice wasn’t the right flavor or texture. The beef was tough.

Oh good god that’s a lot of ingredients

Learn to make them at home. Your ingredients list will be

    Sugar

    Rice Vinegar

    Salt

    Rice

    Nori

And whatever you put in it.

They are shockingly easy to make once you do it a few times.

  9. I finally got to try onigiri at my grocery store and…..I was sad. Guess i need to learn how to make my own. The sushi is passable but I know it can be better
