Be so forreal with me… would you guys drink nespresso pods from 2016? My mom gave me some sleeves she had squirreled away. A few are dented but most are in perfect shape. What would you guys recommend?

Also one is a pod I can’t even find online (see pics).

The others is a sleeve of some decaf red pods.

I live dangerously and those dates are just suggestions! Those are sealed so I surely would brew one up and see what happens. You should be able to get an idea from the smell and texture. Let us know!

I drink craft beers that are 7-10 years old. Why not coffee?

There’s only one way to find out..

    Coffee enema incoming

Nespresso has said pods last pretty much forever because of how they’re packaged and sealed. Go for it.

*would you guys drink nespresso pods from 2016?*

Opening the sleeve destroyed its collectible value.😆

I absolutely would and do. I just purchased an OL sleeve (Chestnut Cream) from 2009 that I am trying tomorrow.

Being a flavored pod at best it will taste flat. The chemical flavor chemistry probably changes. But the other pods being just coffee will be ok I think as long as the pods are sealed (puffy). Won’t kill you, but just might not taste great either.

Yes, they’re completely fine. Those actually sell for $15-$20 / pod. You basically have Nespresso gold.

  9. This is from an official Nespresso post on X some time back: (sorry, can’t seem to reply with a picture)

Kindly know that our capsules are hermetically sealed to protect against light, moisture, and oxygen, ensuring they don’t actually expire. A lot of members collect limited-edition blends from years ago, as they are safe to drink. We’re a DM away if you require assistance! (2/2)

    Yes.

I have had OL pods as old from the 2009/10.

You’ll be fine, as long as the capsules aren’t comprised you’re good to go

I always wondered if they had chocolate pods

Sure as long as the aluminum is taut, that shows the nitrogen is still in there.

I don’t know about Vertuo capsules, but if they are discontinued, they are probably collectible

The coffee will not have gone off if that’s what you worried about. It may have lost some of its flavor and intensity do to the volatiles degrading over time. The coffee starts to oxidize after roasting and after being ground more surface area is available for oxidation.

Those are the ones I’m drinking I was gifted almost 16 sleeves of the ones expired in 2016
I drink it daily and I’m well ok

  16. They should basically be fine. Please try one and report back!

Depends. I wouldn’t if they were supposed to be milky or something. But a standard coffee pod? Eh. Worst case is that they are stale. Maybe crack one open first? (I found mold in a vanilla one once and was scared of my machine for ages.)
