So i went to the store today and saw these, sounded too good to be true. i went home, already put a pot of water to boil, to my surprise they were in soke kind of brine so i looked it up and read all about them and apparently people hate them. I ate them with some tuna tomato sauce and absolutely loved them, so much so that i felt i was doing something illegal, they must be the wrong type and i messed up my calorie intake. Did i get the normal ones?? Am i missing something? im pretty new to diet stuff, like counting calories, macros etc.

Different people are more or less sensitive to konjac. I haven’t had issues, but I know some people can have delibilitating stomach cramps and indigestion after eating them.

Also notable is that these are a more prepared version of them, which seems like they might have a more approachable flavor / texture. The lowest calorie “original” Konjac noodles often come packed in liquid, have more of a rice noodle texture, and can have an offputting odor until thoroughly rinsed.

This brand seems like theyve tried addressing some of those issues, glad you had a good experience!

Your body cannot digest them, that’s why they have so few calories. They are also known for causing intestinal blockages because of that reason. They’re fine to eat occasionally but absolutely do not eat them every day, or else you’re playing with fire.

I’ve not tried them but would like to. Just don’t have it too often/big portions cause your body can’t digest it and could cause blockages

Can you find many gluten free things in Romania?

First off there are all different types with different macros etc. You can often even find kinds in Asian groceries where konjac is mixed in with other ingredients.

The issue is that people often compare new things to what they know. So if you introduce something like Tofu many people will hate it because: ‘it tastes and feels nothing like meat’. Despite the fact that it has its own flavor/texture and there can be room for both. Like hating on Udon noodles because you are used to pasta.

So many people hate people hate konjac noodles because they really want the noodles/pasta they are used to and konjac noodles are not an identical duplicate like they hope.

Since it’s high in fiber there are also people who way overeat it and then can sometimes even require surgery because their body can’t digest it. So there is also some fear mongering around this ingredient despite the fact that for most people it is absolutely fine as a part of a balanced diet.

Personally I like them. Not as an alternative to anything but as an addition to the foods I already like and enjoy. I don’t think they are ideal for every single recipe. But depending on how you cook them I find them very tasty

I loved the concept of a “low calorie pasta alternative” (which it isn’t, but is often presented that way), but my stomach cannot handle them — I had the worst cramps from gas/indigestion. Everyone is different, but I’d give it a good 24 hours before you make your conclusion!

And be careful over-indulging. You might not necessarily be able to notice issues immediately, but with anything non-digestible, it’s not meant to be consumed in the same quantity as a normal food, like wheat noodles or pasta.

I like Konjac. It gets a bad rap because people eat a tonne it thinking they’ve found the secret to losing weight, don’t drink any water, and end up with mad upset stomach. The key is to eat a serving and drink lots of water. Don’t eat it everyday, don’t binge a lot at once. It’s a great pasta substitute.

looks like yours has some other things in it: tapioca starch, carob bean gum. The one I have is only konjac flour (3.5%) and for this reason is 9 calories per 100g. I would expect the other ingredients you have add a better flavor in exchange for a measly 22 calories, sounds like a great buy 🙂

Okay this is random but: I do not know why that’s called penne. It is absolutely not penne. It looks similar to fettuccine.

Just know that if it looks like worms in your poop, it’s actually just the undigested noodles

I haven’t had any issues with eating konjac noodles so far! The packs I buy come pre-portioned so I don’t eat like all of it and immediately get sick LOL

Huh. I’m skeptical of the calorie count. Tapioca starch is not that low calorie and is a listed ingredient before Konjac. At only 3% Konjac this is more Tapioca starch than Konjac. Just note that Tapioca flour is typically over 300 calories per 100g.
