EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso welcomes Kala Baja Med, a new Baja Mediterranean restaurant created by Michelin-star chefs Carlos Gaytán, Jonatan Gómez Luna, and Mikel Alonso.
The restaurant’s menu emphasizes fresh ingredients, balance, and refined simplicity, with dishes designed for sharing.
The concept honors both tradition and innovation, reflecting the bicultural identity of the Borderland.
Benjamin Ariola is the owner and partner of Kala Baja Med.
“This is a restaurant that’s going to combine some of the best flavors from Baja California with some of the most incredible flavors from the Mediterranean. Countries like Spain, Greece, French, we’ve been able to create a cuisine where we combine both into a fusion and highlight some incredible cuisine,” said Ariola.
“Kala Baja Med is going to be a family-style restaurant where we can expect people to be able to share dishes, have great conversations, enjoy themselves, but it’s an elevated experience. So we want to highlight the quality of the food, the technique that the food is prepared, and the style and the flavors that we’re trying to achieve while respecting the quality of the food again,” said Ariola.
“We’ve been able to bring three chefs from across the world with Michelin Star qualifications to come create the menu, train our staff, and really inspire this community to reach new heights,” he said.
Kala Baja Med will celebrate its official opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday at 3 p.m. at 7470 Cimarron Market Ave, Building 5, Suite 100.
The restaurant opens to the public on Jan. 30, offering dinner service from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Reservations are available through OpenTable.
