🥨 Sourdough Pretzels

soft • chewy • golden

Ingredients:

• 260g warm filtered water

• 100g sourdough starter

• 30g sugar

• 500g bread flour

• 10g salt

• 1/4 cup baking soda (for 4 cups boiling water)

• egg wash & flaky sea salt

Method:

1️⃣ Mix water, starter, and sugar until milky.

2️⃣ Add flour + salt. Mix until shaggy.

3️⃣ Knead on a lightly floured surface for 5–10 minutes until smooth.

4️⃣ Shape into a ball, place in a bowl, cover, and let rise 6–8 hrs (until doubled).

5️⃣ Preheat oven to 425°F. Bring water to a boil and add baking soda.

6️⃣ Divide dough into 8 pieces. Roll into thin logs and shape.

7️⃣ Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds.

8️⃣ Brush with egg wash, sprinkle with sea salt.

9️⃣ Bake 15–20 minutes until deeply golden.

✨ Soft inside. Chewy outside.

✨ Perfect with butter or mustard.

    Those look amazing. My dad swears you need lye to make them taste like a pretzel. I haven’t ventured into pretzel making yet but these are inspiring.
