So I’ve recently got my big green egg large and as much as I love everything on it, the bottom air vent is a bit weird.

I need to put a lot of force to close te vent completely. Should this be the case? I could assume it’s supposed to be, but I feel like those 3 closing flaps (or what the called) are bit to close to each other. I can fully close it, but do other owners have this as well?

Thanks

Don’t worry, those black plastic tabs will disappear/fall off pretty soon and it won’t be a problem.

Yh, that’s the same with mine. Thought it was weird at first too but got used to it almost instantly

Takes a little push to lock the screen in, assuming it’s safety so the embers can’t run out creating a heat party

  4. That’s not the vent, that’s just the screen. You only open and close it when cleaning out ash so I haven’t minded that it’s a bit stiff. Keeps it in place when I’m adjusting the vent while cooking.

I removed my screen years ago. I don’t think it is necessary. I open and close the solid door as needed.

Anyone ever have to replace the bottom vent? Mine is starting to come apart and haven’t started looking into replacement options yet.

I would just bend the middle tab in slightly

I don’t have a screen in mine and I have never had any embers fall out. If you clean out the ashes before cooking, this is a problem that does not exist, in my opinion.

I think it does kinda “snap” closed. They don’t want the screen coming up during a cook. The issue I have is mine has accumulated grime in the track and has gotten hard to slide. Probably need to give it a good spray wash.
