I was sent two different types of pepper seeds by someone. How do I plant them correctly? I don’t wanna make any mistakes. They told me to put them in a wet cotton indoors for about 1 week until they grow roots and then plant them in soil. What do you recommend? I’m in Greece if it helps answer

There are a number of methods for germinating pepper seeds.

There is the damp paper towel in a zip lock bag method.

This didn’t work for me. They germinate but didn’t grow when planted.

You can also just plant them in good potting soil (about 1cm deep).

Most important, either way. Keep temperature 75-85 degrees F and keep them moist, not wet. Too wet will likely cause mold and fungus growth which kills the seed.

I found soaking the seeds in weak camomille tea for 24hrs helped to soften the seeds and improve germination, it’s also suppose to inhibit fungus growth.

Whichever method you choose, I’d suggest just use a portion of the seeds so can try again on case it fails.

When it works, it works. You might end up with more plants than you know what to do with. Plus it’s addictive, you’ll want more variety if you have success.

    Good luck!

The way I do it is I use a seed starting tray that has a water reservoir and I place it in a heated mat made for seedlings. Keep it moist and warm. If you’re lucky, you can see some growth in a couple of days, but it can take like 3-5 weeks. Once you see four leaves or more, it’s a good time to move it into a bigger container

I hate the paper towel method as it is so imprecise and disrupts the seeds growth.

You can get fancy like with parks bio domes which I use or if you are just starting get some seedling starter soil. Put it in small plastic pots with good drainage bury them about 1cm deep. Keep moist not wet by spraying and keep the temp around 85 degrees F. Put lights over them and when true leaves appear transplant to 3.5″ pots.
