Grano Kitchen in Old Market

An Italian restaurant and pasta bar has confirmed it will not be reopening its bricks and mortar venue in Old Market. Grano Kitchen, which is run by the same team as that of next door neighbours Gigi’s Pizza Shop, served up its last dishes in the restaurant back in June.

Taking to Instagram on Monday (February 16) the team gave an ‘important announcement’, sharing photos from its last day of service and said: “We will not be reopening our restaurant in Old Market. We feel the right decision is to expand our operations at Gigi’s (yes, we are the same family), which is currently thriving and in need of extra space for customer seating, events, and food preparation.

“The spirit of Grano lives on at St Nicholas Market, where we have truly found our dimension in a fantastic location, an exciting working environment, and with more sociable working hours. Here’s a carousel from our final service at Grano Kitchen, on Saturday 28th June 2025, on film, unfiltered.”A Big thank you to all the incredible staff members and every customer who supported us during our time at the restaurant and who continue to visit us at the market today. Sempre Forte.”

Grano opened back in late 2022, after popular Italian former pop-up finally found its permanent home where it all began in 2018, taking over the former site of the Glitch salon in Old Market.

Taking to the comments section below the post on Monday, fans and locals were quick to share their thoughts on the news. One said: “Grano was a staple establishment that helped put Old Market on the Bristol map.” While a second wrote: “Very sad to hear you won’t be reopening Grano… Amazing memories and delicious food I had there since your opening.

“Wish you all the best in the future and will continue giving you my support.”

And a third commented: “Please do the tiramisu at Gigi’s!”

The Grano team have said that their St Nick’s Market pasta bar will remain open, despite the Old Market closure. The market bar opened in May 2025 and has been serving up the restaurant’s handmade pasta, as well as ‘epic desserts’.
