River Arts District rebuilding one year after Helene | Drone view

Drone footage captures Asheville’s River Arts District one year after Helene, showing ongoing storm damage alongside efforts to restore the arts hub.

ASHEVILLE – Down, but not out, Peyton Barrell and Katie Grabach have found a new home for their rotisserie and wine bar, Gourmand Rotisserie.

Gourmand Rotisserie was nearing opening day, set for November 2024 in the River Arts District, when its building was knocked off its foundation and submerged by floodwaters the September before, when the French Broad River rose to a historic 24.67 feet during Tropical Storm Helene.

Gourmand Rotisserie will open in an undisclosed location on Broadway Street in North Asheville, tentatively in the late summer/early fall of this year.

Diners can look forward to a French-inspired fast-casual dining service, with a menu offering rotisserie chicken, salads, sandwiches and rotating specials that can be enjoyed indoors or outdoors, overlooking the Reed Creek Greenway.

Guests may stop in for a quick breakfast and coffee, lunch and dinner.

In March 2023, Gourmand opened in Asheville as a food hall vendor at S&W Market, offering prepared dishes, small plates, cheese and charcuterie and an extensive wine collection, until closing the following October.

Barrell and Grabach designed the business based on their love for unadulterated French cuisine and wine and social experiences.

The owners said that certain elements of the retail and wine bar concept will be reintroduced at the standalone, brick-and-mortar in North Asheville.
