SOLOMON — Dining choices in the Gila Valley continue to grow.

Mangiamo Italian Restaurant in Solomon is now open.

The restaurant is the brainchild of owner Tom Biggs, of El Charro fame. Biggs said he missed the Valley’s previous Italian eatery, Aria.

“You know, growing up in the Gila Valley, we haven’t had anything, and this is something the Gila Valley has really needed,” Biggs said. “So when this opportunity came up, I felt like I had to jump on it.”

The restaurant offers authentic Italian cuisine — everything from four-cheese ravioli and caccio e pepe, to gnocchi al pesto and lasagna al forno — plus each dish offers a suggested wine pairing featuring locally-sourced wines.

Those looking for something sweet after a date night can pop in for a traditional Italian dessert, such as cannoli or tiramisu.

Biggs knew Mangiamo would be a hit following his first foray into Italian dining — Que Pasta. He started the delivery-only Italian menu, operating out of the El Charro kitchen, as a way to help homebound families during the Covid-19 lockdown.

“It did teach me a lot of things about the recipes, and things that would work and wouldn’t work,” Biggs said. “There are a few — well, mainly one —recipe that we’re using from Que Pasta. Everything else here is fresh.”

Mangiamo is located at 5185 E. Clifton St. in Solomon, and is open Monday through Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
