Pagoda, at The Parade in Marlborough, closed in August 2023 after 35 successful years of trading under the management of Ching Lin and Andy Cheung.

The unit has since sat empty and has been marketed extensively over several years in an attempt to find a new occupant.

It now appears that the building is set to be reopened as a Mediterranean restaurant and bar offering a range of Italian, Greek and Mediterranean food.

LB Brasserie Limited has applied for a premises licence that would allow the venue to serve alcohol between 11am and 11pm, seven days a week.

Its application to Wiltshire Council said: “The premises will be trading as a Mediterranean Brasserie, serving Italian, Greek and Mediterranean food.

“We will be serving soft drinks and alcoholic spirits and wines.

“We will be open every day.”

The application added that the business will primarily be a 36-seater restaurant, although there will also be a bar area that can seat another 16 customers.

It said: “The premises will operate as a food-led brasserie with alcohol supplied ancillary to the consumption of table meals.

“Management will ensure that all licensable activities are conducted in a responsible manner and in accordance with the licensing objectives.

“Staff will be appropriately trained, and effective management controls will be in place at all times.”

The new restaurant could be a major boost to Marlborough residents following concerns over the future of the hospitality industry in the town.

Businesses have previously told this paper they face a battle for survival, while there have been several recent high-profile closures, including Rick Stein’s High Street restaurant.

Customers were saddened by the closure of Pagoda in 2023, when the owners decided to retire after decades of serving people in the town.

The venue became a firm favourite for many and, at the time of the closure, Ching Lin and Andy said they would miss these loyal regulars.

They added: “We will miss the guests, they aren’t customers, they are friends.

“We’ve known some of them for a long time, some as long as 40 years from our previous restaurant, we are always so happy to see them.

“We have really enjoyed the ride.”
