Like the title says, im trying to find out if there are some Kick Ash Can alternatives. $70 seems like a lot for something that looks like a $10 dog bowl. Tried googling it but nothing concert came up. Or at least one that fits a BG1.

Use a $10 dog bowl and cut out the sidewall
There are some cast iron options made specifically for the Joe around 40-50.
Dog bowl also works if you feel comfortable modifying one. If you can find the Ethical Pet (marketed as SPOT brand) Stainless Steel Mirror Finish Bowl in 3qt size, it is nearly identical dimensions to the taller kick ash can (9.5 in OD 4 in height vs 10in OD for the KA can).
Costco business has all kinds of sizes of stainless steel bowls for like 3 bucks. Drill a few holes in the area of the airflow and you have yourself a poor man’s ash bowl (it is ridiculous what they charge for accessories)
The alternative is not to use one
Stop by your local ross and see if they have any stainless steel metal strainers for under $8.99
For the amount of time and effort you’re putting into it, just buy the Kick Ash. I got mine three years ago, and haven’t thought about it since.
Honestly, I don’t think these are worth the money. They are a great concept but be careful with sizing especially with KJ. I was ghosted by them as well when I was trying ask them a question about the one I had purchased.
I always like to support small businesses but this particular interaction rubbed me the wrong way. If you do find an alternative please share!
I’m not a fan. It’s a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. I just use the ash rake and rake the ashes directly into a garbage can. It takes maybe 30 seconds all in. Hard to believe the ash can could make that any quicker or easier.
I also don’t like the design. Instead of the big hole, I’d rather see a whole bunch of little holes that will allow air in, but not allow a hot ember to jump out of the front of the grill. It has happened and caused some fires. It was a big enough risk that about 20 years ago BGE developed a screen that goes in front of the ash door. I’m shocked KJ hasn’t done something similar, but their standard ash drawer serves the same purpose with the holes in the front.. That is why I wouldn’t go with a design like this unless they changed it substantially and it actually did make the cleanup process easier.
