I’ve seen so many things about the Dave’s Hot Chicken reaper being insanely spicy, but also a lot of people saying that it tends to be very inconsistent and sometimes not that hot.
Never been to Dave’s, so gave it a shot. Got one Extra Hot and one Reaper tender. Extra hot was delicious, I’d say it was probably a 3.5/10 on heat though.
Reaper was good, but I think they went light on the seasoning. It definitely built up though, took me about 8 minutes to finish it. I’d put it at an 8/10 or so for heat. Did go through a whole large Coke Zero to try to quench the heat. This was about 2 hours ago, and I can absolutely feel that reaper extract in my stomach. Tomorrow morning is gonna be interesting.

Still looks fairly caked on. My reaper tender wrekt me just from 1/3 of it. One day I’ll finish one
Mine was definitely intense, almost painful heat with a long duration. But the real pain came 7 hours later, waves of stomach pain while laying in bed.
You’re gonna be peeing that out your butt at 3AM
If you ain’t signing a waiver to eat it, it most likely won’t be that spicy. Especially in an American food establishment lol. That’s just what I’ve started to realize.
Overpriced chicken fingers 🫣
I see all these Dave’s hot chicken posts, the closest one to me is a bit away so I haven’t bothered to try it.
Aside from being very spicy (or not), is it good chicken/food, or is it more like spicier fast food? I can make crazy hot chicken at home just fine.
Doesn’t look like a reaper, even extra hot is a reddish brown color. That looks like mild/medium
They need to change the fryer oil, that guy is burnt
The more of these posts I see the more I realize how inconsistent they must be.
The reaper tender I ate was a dark crimson color. I’ve done quite a few spice challenges. The Death nut 2.0, solar flare challenge, plenty of one chip challenges, and was eating raw reapers on the regular.
That tender gave me a runners high. I don’t often get the euphoric feeling from eating spicy food but 10 minutes in and it washed I er me like a warm wave. The buzz was real.
I live in Reno and my wife goes to school there and there’s one right by campus I’m pretty positive. Gonna have her drop me off and hopefully have her pick me up without me dying
Go to Tumble 22 if you have one near you and get their “Stupid Hot” chicken 👌👌
My buddy had a reaper, I’m too much of a puss plus I like to enjoy my food. It didn’t look anything like that and he was dying. It was hilarious because I asked him like ten times if he was sure when I ordered it. I was laughing my ass off. I love Dave’s but Birdcode is better. I don’t think they have it anywhere else besides CT.
Is it super salty? Most fast food/casual dining type “spicy chicken whatever” seems so salty and over seasoned . Granted, I live in BFE central Midwest so choices are limited.
I love Dave’s, the heat right below the reaper is my go to default.
The reaper feels too spicy, almost inedible and unpleasant. Was fun to do once though.
I wish they had a standardized seasoning technique because it’s never consistent even at the same location from day to day or meal to meal.
Unfortunately we have better spots near me. I was pretty disappointed with Dave’s. Nashville Coop in Saint Paul MN is the place to go if ever in MN.
