Looking at the assembly instructions for my new smoker, and it seems like the silicone piece should go with the thermometer, but I don’t see it on the instructions and it certainly doesn’t fit the probe easily. Where the heck does this go? Thank you in advance!

That is a silicon port so that you can use a wired probe without having the wire get pinched by the lid. There should be somewhere along grate level but underneath the dome where that goes. Edit: look at number 12 & 13.
It’s number 13 and goes into number 12. The main body of the smokey mountain.

It slides in that hole right there. And, as mentioned, it has a slit that you can put your wired thermo probes through. It fits in that hole like a rubber grommet. Its kind of a bitch to get it in the first time, but you shouldn’t ever have to mess with it again.
Congratulations for the purchase, it’s a great smoker!
Congrats. I got the WSM 14” in 2015. I call it my little black R2-D2, and you can fit 4 racks of ribs in it, rolled up and secured by a skewer, stood on end.
Its pieces fit into my kitchen sink to keep it clean.
