This is definitely one of Michael’s favorite ways to eat hot dogs! If you’ve never tried this method, then you are missing out!!! This recipe is inspired by the NY hot dog cart vendors’ style. It’s typically served with sauerkraut & mustard.

Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Psalm 97:10

  1. These hot dogs are loaded with flavor, even steaming the buns over the dirty water infuses some flavor into the buns.I would eat these hot dogs every day if Momma Jo would let me. The seasoning of the water makes these dogs amazing. If you are a fan of street vendor style hot dogs then you have to try this recipe it is unbelievably delicious.

  2. They look amazing. You just have bought skinless hot dogs, right? Because most hot dogs all have a skin or casing around them that would of course prevent anything from penetrating the hot dogs to flavor them. Penetrating the outer casing is impossible unless you prick each one with a fork several times. I suspect you bought skinless hot dogs, right?
Grilling a hot dog is usually my ultimate favorite way to prepare them.
Turns out history shows us that cantankerous ol' taste tester right there is never wrong and so when he says these are even better than grilled hot dogs I have to believe him – but that is difficult to do. Better than grilling them????? That's a powerful claim.

  3. I really like cole slaw on my hot dogs. You know what else is good on hot dogs? BBQ baked beans! Or better yet… BBQ baked beans and one or two bacon strips.

  4. Note: To clarify any confusion from a few comments that I received, I used skinless hot dogs. Skinless hot dogs are frankfurters processed without a natural casing, offering a tender texture. Popular brands like Nathan's Famous, Sahlen's, and Hebrew National offer these, commonly made from beef, pork, or a mix. They provide a consistent, tender, and softer bite compared to natural casing hot dogs, which have a distinct "snap". Cooking Methods: Ideal for boiling, steaming, pan-frying, and microwaving.

  5. Hi Momma Jo …with all the sporting events, the Olympics in full swing & the Superbowl we're bound to have a hot dog night easy & simple to prepare. Love the dirty dog …we use all beef that tends to snap perfect to absorb the spices. I use my keto buns & it feels like cheating. Love how you spice your water & will be trying that. We use ketchup, beef broth, few spices & sauteed onions are the topper. All good what ever way we make them & yours look delicious. Love & Hugs

  6. Hello mama Jo, i’ve heard of dirty dogs, but I’ve never known what they were and how to make them. This looks very interesting and I’m definitely gonna try it. Thank you for putting this video up.

  7. These type of frankfurters are called DIRTY WATER dogs, not dirty dogs. Because the same water was used all day on the carts. No cart put all those ingredients in their water. The seasonings in the Sabrett franks flavored the water over time.
