With so many eyes on Cortina, Italy right now, you might be curious about the food, the flavors, and the alpine-style of Northern Italian cuisine. You don’t need a passport to experience it because you can find that authentic taste in Metro Detroit.

Café Cortina is bringing alpine elegance and mountain-inspired cuisine to the plate in Farmington Hills.

Café Cortina owner Adrian Tonon shared that his father is from the area of Cortina d’Ampezzo, which he described as a “very romantic ski town.” He said that his family wanted to create something with that same romance, and that’s how Café Cortina came to life.

When it comes to the cuisine, Tonon explained that Northern Italian food is more gamey.

“It’s the mountainous, it’s the wild mushrooms, it is the pasta, but as you travel through Italy, every region has their own specialty that this is what they take pride in. So at Café Cortina, we cook regionally. Even though my father’s from the north, my mother’s from the south, so a lot of the fish and things from the sea come from those recipes. But in the north, it’s just about good company and breaking bread at the table,” Tonon explained.

During an appearance on “Live In The D”, Café Cortina Chef Ernesto Antopia highlighted polenta and other dishes served at the restaurant.
