Always read about charcoal consumption with the bigger models. Using fire bricks completely eliminates that problem. Steak for one on my XL.

    I’ve had an XL for over 25years. I have an even better way.

    I just stack the charcoal in a pile and light it!

    This is a good use of the fire bricks

    I’ve used the CGS Adjustable Ang-L Dividers for the same thing for a while now and they work really well too

    This is a cool idea, But I just light it up and then put it out when I’m done. It only seems to burn as much as I want it to but maybe that’s just me

    Fire bricks are my favourite unofficial accessory. Instead of a plate setter (or conveggtor as they call it today) I use bricks on the steel grate with two on their edge and then the cooking grate on top. Gives me a variable sized plate setter and handy when a dual zone is useful.

    Find them much cheaper and therefore less concern about heat shock cracking the things, and available in different sizes to customize the kind of cook.

    This use to cut the area in the firebox is a great idea!
