A restaurateur is preparing to unveil his ‘modern Italian trattoria’ at the site of a town’s former all day café.
Jack Primavista has taken over the former Gastrono-me, in Abbeygate Street, Bury St Edmunds, and is aiming for a soft opening of the new restaurant this week.
He said the venue will have five strings to its bow by offering Italian breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, while he will be importing all the products he uses in his dishes from Italy.

The restaurant will bear Jack’s name, Primavista, and he has other outlets focusing on different offers in other areas of the country including Oxford and Aylesbury.
Jack said: “So our first project was to try and move from Oxford to Cambridge with my business partner.
“We came to have a walk around Bury and I was really impressed with the quality of life and the people and the market.

“The standard was really high, and we said we really would like to find something here.”
Jack said Primavista is going to be his first proper Italian restaurant and he is looking forward to bringing his food to the town.
He is aiming to produce the classic dishes customers know and love, but with a modern twist.
Primavista will serve a range of Italian starters and mains, pizzas and pasta, as well as Mediterranean meats and fish dishes.

Also on offer will be a host of homemade Italian desserts and cakes.
Jack was hopeful of a soft opening this week, dependent on furniture deliveries, while he was certain the restaurant would be fully operational by next week.
He added Primavista will be retaining Gastrono-me’s downstairs karaoke room, which will also be used as a private function area.

Gastrono-me shut in October after 13 years, having first opened in St John’s Street.
