SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – Osteria Amici, an Italian restaurant with an existing location in Elkhart, is opening a second location in Eddy Street Commons.
The new restaurant is expected to open later this year inside the space that previously housed an Urban Outfitters.
The Elkhart location is known for its pizzas made by world champion pizza maker Paul Cataldo, using flour imported from Italy.
Matthew Soutra, vice president for Navarre Hospitality Group and owner of Osteria Amici, said the South Bend location will build on what has worked in Elkhart.
“One of the comments that we get from our guests is that they really love the atmosphere. It’s got a nice intimate vibe. And we’re going to take all the things that we think are working in our Elkhart location and bring those over to South Bend,” Soutra said. “The difference is we’ll have room to do a little bit more. So we’re going to have two bars. There’ll be two private dining rooms, open kitchen, lots of great wine, cocktails, obviously. So we’re very excited. We think this is going to be a great addition to downtown’s dining.”
Soutra said work at the South Bend location is ongoing. The restaurant is targeting a grand opening during Notre Dame football season, or by the end of the year at the latest.
