The Black Sea region in Türkiye is best known for fish.. but not this soup! 👀 This is “Nohutlu Ispanak Çorbası” and it’s basically spinach and chickpeas cooked in a broth. Spinach soup is usually eaten in fall/ autumn, because it’s freshest after being harvested in the late summer/early fall. Many traditional (Turkish) recipes follow the harvest calendar and since autumn is the time when the weather gets colder, it makes sense for soups like this to be eaten.

This soup is not tied to one region alone and isn’t an official regional specialty (like karalahana çorbası from the Black Sea) and these type of ‘specific’ soups aren’t always served in restaurants. It’s honestly more of a home cooking tradition.

👩🏻‍🍳 ABOUT ME
hi!

Welcome to my little food corner on the internet

I’m someone who loves cooking. I’d go as far as saying cooking is one of my love languages. I’m not a professional chef, but I aspire to be a great chef like my mom. Most of what I know, I owe to her.

That’s also where the name ‘Serra Moon’ comes from. It’s a blend of my name and hers. It’s a little tribute to all the memories we’ve shared and continue to share.

For me, cooking is more than just preparing food. It’s a way to slow down, create and connect to my roots. It brings me peace. And if I can share even a little of that feeling with you here, then I’m already happy.

Happy cooking!

  3. I’m gluten free, could I crush some of the chickpeas as a thickener possibly? Thank you for sharing your recipes, sending love from Virginia 💛

  4. Spanac ciorbă! Sometimes I will listen to your videos and forget that you’re not speaking Romanian. As a bonus I don’t even have to look up the etymology of the words.

  5. Hi
I really love all the recipes and as an indian we dont really use chicken or vegetable broth in cooking so idk where to find that
so if there's some other recipe without it please share it
Thankyou ( im 16 and dont know much about cooking so)

  6. Unfortunately I have only dried chickpeas here or else I would prepare it immediately. It looks so delicious!
Now I know what I will cook tomorrow

  7. What flavor does the yogurt give in the soup? Are the probiotics still alive with the temperature?

  8. When I eat canned chick peas, I take the extra time and take every shell off the chick peas. All you have to do is agitate the chick peas with your hand while they are under running water in the colander, and the clear shells easily come off. It takes time to pick all the clear shells out, but then the chick peas are soft and can soak up so much flavor. I really didn’t like chick peas until I started removing the shells. They were always hard and dry with no flavor.

  9. It is great to see you’re trying new soups, but just a fair warning: Turkish soups are not this runny like water, you need a thicker consistency.

  10. There is a bone marrow soup I had in Turkey that I haven’t been able to find at all since!! Let me know if you find it 😭

  11. I yet have to find a recipe of yours i dont wanna try😂😂 until now they all landed in my "food i need to make"-playlist ❤
