













17 omakase menu for $200 (tip is not accepted). The chef kicks off the experience making the shari by mixing it with red vinegar – the acidity is well balanced. Chef describes it as Edo style and the menu includes:
– 4 Otsumami
– 7 Nigiri
– 1 torched fish course
– 2 Rice courses
– Handroll
– Tamago
– Dessert
Chef is native to Missouri, fell in love with Sushi in Tokyo, and later left his corporate law job to open a Sushiya in KC. Most of the fish is from Japan and they change the menu as the seasons change. Very intimate experience with just the chef and the hostess where conversation with the chef is encouraged.
If you are ever in KC, I highly recommend it. Pricing wise it is well priced compared to Ota Omakase in Omaha at $350 and Pavilion in St Louis at $220.

There’s an amazing omakase place in Brookline (Boston, MA) that’s $99 pp. I’ve also been to the only Michelin in Boston. No way would I pay $200pp omakase in Kansas.
I guess you get what you get.
I’ve been there. It was pretty good! The chef isn’t very charismatic, if that makes sense? So you can encourage conversation all your want but you won’t get much back. The hostess had more energy, I would have preferred talking to her more.
People shaking over the price because its in Kansas City don’t seem to get that it costs that much *because* it is Kansas City lol I didn’t have to pay air fare and lodging for a trip to a coastal omakase menu, so that makes it cheaper than those options.
To the people saying “no way would I pay 200 for sushi in KC” – you are idiots.
Flash freezing plus ability to transport makes availability of top ingredients accessible in places beyond big coastal cities, the remaining questions being the expertise/skill of the chef and the additional cost of providing this in a more logistically challenging location.
I just had a sushi dinner in Cleveland that was on par with Michelin star sushi meals I’ve had in SF and NYC. I haven’t been to the place in this post and agree with some of the comments about the appearance of the dishes, but the idea that a top notch sushi omakase couldn’t exist in kc and be worth the price of other big cities is very dumb.
