    Something that burns charcoal

  2. Excellent-Swim3911

none of those. get a weber kettle

  3. Powerful_Concert9474

Don’t go that route. Even as a beginner, you buy one of those you’ll be back buying a new grill in a year or two. Home depot has some good ones. Look on Facebook marketplace for better ones, used obviously but cheaper.

You’ll also need to figure out if you want to go charcoal or propane. Both two different animals with two different results.

Weber. You spend more in the long run replacing cheap grills. Best to spend once, cry once and enjoy for years to come

More of a lifestyle than a hobby. Welcome! Don’t get a gas grill, go with charcoal.

  6. Many have said it… But there a Weber kettle is unbeatable.   Preferably a 22 in.

Gonna go a smidgen against the grain, definitely a webber kettle, but i find the 18 inch to be perfect, can cook decent size meat for and can handle plenty of burgers, thighs, wings ect. Ive never filled my 22 inch up, cooking for 4 people.

    Grilling is considered a hobby??

This sub will basically only tell you to get a weber. I will say i grabbed a charbroil on clearance for $236 and its fantastic so long as you keep it clean and covered. I also burned in some avocado oil before i started using it to make the whole inside non-stick

I agree, get a weber kettle. They are FANTASTIC. I prefer to grill/smoke with them more than gas grills now. The simplicity of them, and durability is unmatched. The use of charcoal and wood chunks when smoking, it’s all very nice. You will become a huge fan of it after the first cook

Get a Weber kettle used. Check it out and see what you like.

Hard to give a great answer, really. So I’ll break down my thought process.

1st decide if you want gas or charcoal.

Gas heats more evenly, heats faster and is easier to control. However, it doesn’t give much extra flavor than any other propane or natural gas burning appliance.

Charcoal can get WAY hotter, so it has more versatility (you can smoke low and slow and sear 600+F easily). You can get some really nice charcoal and smoke flavor. However, it’s much harder to maintain a good flame and takes a lot more time to get the charcoal burning and the grill up to temp.

The other thing to consider. Are you looking to really take on grilling? Or are you just testing the waters to see if you even like it? If the latter, get something cheap. If the former, definitely get something mid to high end. As others have said, you pay way more in the long run by getting a cheap grill you have to replace.

All of that said, for a good brand go Weber. For charcoal I can’t recommend a Weber kettle enough. I’ve had gas grills as cheap as 100 USD and charcoal grills pushing 1000 USD and the Weber kettle premium is the best for the cost imo.

I have an expert grill gas grill and a charcoal one. You’ll see a lot of people may disagree with the purchase but they’ve been good to me.

I’m not grilling novice. I grill food that I like and call it a day.

Everyone else can argue over the semantics.

Get the grill that you like and have fun.

Just a classic Weber kettle grill. Learn to to cook good on it and you can cook on anything

  15. Lefty-18

Weber kettle. I use gas too so if/when you get that Weber is a safe bet. Genesis line.

  16. Murdy2020

Weber Kettle is a great, affordable, versatile grill. There are tons of useful accessories for it, and it’s also a credible smoker (Google “snake method”).

  17. jay9063

Used Weber kettle on Facebook marketplace. Cheap and will do everything you need it to do

  18. badmutha44

Nothing you can buy at Walmart honestly. Check out FB market place for a used Weber.

Weber kettle and learn to control temp

Everyone’s going to say Weber Kettle. But since one of the pics you posted is mostly griddles I’m going to say that it depends on what you want to do.

Lately I use my griddle more than anything else. Fajitas, stir fry, philly cheese steaks, smash burgers, etc. I use my griddle. I had a bunch of family over for breakfast recently and made a giant breakfast for everyone on the griddle. I love that thing.

If you want to grill then I would say it depends. If you find you just want to make quick meals then a propane grill gets the job done. But if you want to get into the hobby of grilling like you said then get a charcoal grill. And the Weber kettle is the standard for charcoal grills.

    ONLY a Webber Kettle ONLY
    rest is unnecessary

  22. JBours73

If you’re new to grilling, go with a gas grill or griddle. Gas is easier to work with and griddles a super versatile. If you already can grill a burger that makes your spouse happy, I’d recommend a smoker. Plenty of people are happy with the pellet style like in the picture. Personally I have the Masterbuilt gravity fed because it has the ease of use like a pellet smoker but uses charcoal which tastes better to me.

  23. I’ve had all types of grills and smokers. If I had to do it all again I’d only get a Weber kettle and really learn how to use it. I think it’s the most versatile option and I really enjoy using it.

  24. fuzztub07

I’ve used many grills over the years and the best one I’ve ever had (and still use) is the weber performer platinum. I prefer charcoal and adding some wood. The gas tank to start the charcoal also means no more messing with lighter fluid or chimneys.

  25. Signal-Agency3725

Especially if you go gas, get a Weber. But a 22″ Weber kettle will last you forever and is affordably top of the line.

If you didn’t buy a Weber you fucked up.

  26. Expensive-Tip-498

Akorn charcoal grill. Great price for a good product, I just started out smoking meats and it’s been a great weekend hobby

  27. The_CDXX

Find one that looks cool to you. 🤷🏾‍♂️

  28. Parpil2_0

Don’t listen to everybody telling you to start with an expensive one. At first if you just want to begin, go with whatever you think it’s fair to start up for a cheap hobby. Pay for the grill like 2x or 3x what you would pay for a good steak you want to cook on it. IF you like it, THEN start looking for a better solution like weber or charcoal. Honestly? Just get a random grate so that you can start on the action, don’t listen to these people telling you to splurge on your first equipment

  29. 3BallCornerPocket

Kamado Joe Classic. You can grill, smoke, bake, and rotisserie. Then get a blackstone for big parties or breakfast. This is the best combo in the game by a mile.

  30. Evening-Upset

Webber kettle! Preferably a Master Touch. I got mine on Facebook marketplace for $75 a few years back in nearly perfect condition. It’s still my only grill.

  31. NotThat1guy

The best 22” Weber kettle you can afford.

  32. Puzzleheaded_Row5726

Nothing from there unless you’re planning on replacing it every year.

  33. ReadditRedditWroteit

Weber kettle is a great place to start.
