Oakland County Restaurant Quest: Kubba House in West Bloomfield
(Crystal A. Proxmire, March 2, 2026)
West Bloomfield, MI – There are many delicious Mediterranean restaurants in Oakland County, and one of my new favorites is Kubba House in West Bloomfield.
Kubba House is known for their Iraqi-style Mediterranean fare, thriving mostly on carryout orders and catering, though there are a few tables available to dine-in.
I ordered several items beginning with the restaurant’s namesake. Kubba, or Kibbeh, is often presented as a ball of rice of potato stuffed with minced meat. But in Iraqi culture Kubba Mosul is made with flat layers of bulgur and semolina with minced meat in the middle. This style allows for a more even mix of dough and filling, and thin, crispier texture. This came served with rice and a choice of sides. I picked the white bean stew, made with a red curry sauce and a generous amount of hearty beans.

The chicken shawarma sandwich was superb. The chicken was soft and juicy with crispy golden edges and the mix of tomatoes, pickles and garlic sauce gave it the perfect shawarma flavor.
Of course I had to try the hummus, which is a smooth puree of chickpeas, tahini sauce lemon juice, garlic and olive oil served with fresh pita bread. And for an even healthier option I got the Iraqi Salad, which is a symphony of freshness featuring diced tomato, cucumber, onion, parsley, lemon juice and olive oil. This refreshing salad goes well with many of the richly seasoned Mediterranean flavors of Kubba House.
All of those items were lovely, but my favorite was the Kouzi Lamb Shank. This traditional Iraqi dish features slow-cooked lamb braised with a tomato-based sauce that is rich with a melody of spices. Even in the picture you can see how gently the lamb meat pulls apart and nearly melts upon tasting. This has easily made it’s way into one of my favorite meals, and I’m looking forward to going back for more.

Kubba House has many other Mediterranean favorites, including Chaldean Potato Chop, Kafta, Baba Ghanooj, Crushed Lentil Soup, and Falafel. There is also an impressive catering menu that is perfect for parties, meetings, and other gatherings.
