LOGAN SQUARE — Saba Italian Bar + Kitchen will close this weekend after eight years in Logan Square.

The Italian restaurant and bar at 2715 N. Milwaukee Ave., which opened in 2018, will serve its last meal Saturday, per a statement issued by the ownership team online and posted on the restaurant’s doors Monday.

The statement did not give a reason for the closure but thanked the community for “making the corner of Sawyer and Milwaukee Avenue feel like home.”

“We invite everyone to join us in our final days as we continue with regular operations and celebrate the journey we’ve shared with Logan Square,” part of the message reads.

Saba is one of well-known restaurateur Esam Hani’s many spots along the strip under his hospitality group, One of A Kind Hospitality. Hani did not reply to a request for comment.

Hani also owns Cafe con Leche, Red Star Liquors and Deli, Mr. E’s Late Nite, The Harding Tavern, La Victoria and The Walk In, which has been closed for a remodel since September. It was scheduled to reopen late last year but is still closed. Hani is also a co-owner of Mucho Gusto, which opened last year in the former Old Plank spot.

A spokesperson for the hospitality company did not have an update to The Walk In’s reopening and referred questions about Saba’s closure to Hani.

Also last year, Hani took over the former Furious Spoon, Pink Squirrel and Deadbolt storefronts on Milwaukee Avenue. He plans to revamp the three storefronts into two restaurants and is opening a Mexican taqueria, Tacos del Barrio, in the Furious Spoon spot.

A company spokesperson said the taqueria is expected to open this month while the second concept, which is combining Deadbolt and Pink Squirrel, is still in the works.
