I’m looking at buying this used Weber kettle and saw that most of the grates are rusted. Is there an easy way to clean this off? I’m trying to avoid purchasing new ones if possible.

Those grates are still 100% useable as is.

I usually buy a new grate off Amazon every spring, they are cheap.

IMO, you are way over thinking this. The grill is in great shape, purchase it. If you feel otherwise, move on.

My weber grates had gotten some rust on them since i hadnt used it in about a yr (due to me getting a Big Joe). This weekend i lit a fire and baked them for about an hr at 450. Then i just took a pumice stone to them and wiped off the dust with a wet cloth. It worked really well.

How much do they want for it? Just in case it doesnt work and u end up having to buy new grates.

What are you paying for the grill? Brand new they’re like $150 so are you getting it really cheap? The grates can probably be mostly cleaned buy heating them a ton and rubbing with oil. You can also soak in a vinegar bath if you have a container that’ll fit them. Cleaning grates is pretty easy to find if you google how to do it.

These don’t look to be in rough shape that replacing them would be necessary. They just need a good cleaning. Sometimes you can use a vinegar base solution to target the rust. But my favorite method is actually to remove the grates and put them in an area that you don’t mind getting dirty. And usually, I spray them with easy off oven cleaner or another similarly powerful degreaser. You can leave it open for several hours or if you can find a big enough heavy duty, black trash bags from Home Depot I like to put the grates inside there with a bunch of spray for several hours, and that usually will get them looking fairly brand new after rinsing them off with a wet rag

Good condition. If it’s a good price buy it.

Handheld drill with wire brushes and clean as new. Goggles for sure!
